![]() The bastide of Fleurance was founded in 1274, one of several Gascon bastides, and follows the typical bastide town layout of the region. It has an attractive market hall in the middle of the square and on each corner of the market hall there is a statue representing one of the four seasons. The original market hall was supported by wooden pillars. The current market hall was built in the 19th century and is supported on stone arches. Around the edges are attractive arcades with a selection of shops, restaurants and bars. Near the central square is the large gothic church of St Laurent which has some particularly good stained-glass windows by Arnaud de Môles. There are no particular sights in Fleurance but it is an attractive small town and makes a good base for exploring the region. |
